Our workshop will include collaborations with local zine makers and involves trading and sharing zines folks have created that relate to activism and social mobilization. Our class will start with a brief presentation on how zines have mobilized communities and have been used as tools for activism, before transitioning into the more interactive portion. We’ll allow folks to submit their copies to be printed beforehand and allow time during the class for folks to share their experiences with zines to their classmates. Ultimately, this multifaceted zine workshop will include historical background, opportunities to meet new self-publishers in the community, and provide a site for learning more about the power of zines as activism to empower our community.
