Description

Hi! I am subletting my primary/master bedroom + private bathroom in our 3bed/2bath apartment for the winter, with some flexibility. The Avalon apartment is located within walking distance from downtown Mountain View and the Caltrain station and is generally an excellent place to live at a surprisingly great rent-controlled(!) rate. Because of the preferences of one of the existing roomies, we're primarily seeking a female-identifying person to fill this space.

Dates can start as early as Nov 23 and carry through at least the end of January, probably into February/March and possibly more. I'm very flexible, so if you need longer just let me know!

Costs:

  • Base Rent + internet: 1500/month for this room (w/ yearly rent increase in February). First month's rent due at time of signing (nonrefundable).
  • Refundable security deposit: $1000
  • Utilities: ~$110/month/person in the winter but it varies a lot (total split across 3 people w/ some discounts — that said, we're in the middle of a utility billing transition, so it may be up to ~$120/person starting in February)

About the room:
The room is 10'x13' +private hallway and private full bathroom and comes very furnished with a brand new Full-sized mattress, sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, nightstand, desks (one sit/stand), monitors, chairs, lights, fairy light decorations, etc. I'll leave out a space heater, too. I'll be clearing most of my personal things and putting them under the bed and in the walk-in closet, so you won't have access to that. There will be a few things left out, like some of the contents of the bookshelf, organizer, etc.

You'll be sharing the apartment with two other female flatmates who have their own bathroom. One is a research coordinator at Stanford. She's super friendly, communicative, and loves hanging out with friends and roommates (who she likes being friends with), though appreciates her alone time, too. She's the primary caretaker of Pepper, her lovely and equally friendly cat who will quickly find her way to sit on your lap and bed and occasionally beg for attention. The other flatmate is an undergrad from Maryland doing research at Stanford while studying for the MCAT. She's super quiet and deferential, but enjoys going out for meals and conversation when she's not too busy.

You can find the set of apartment photos here (though we've added more things since these were taken, namely: couch, TV, piano, tables, kitchen island thing. Most can be seen in the photo "Dining"): https://1drv.ms/f/c/21bd43ec596f3410/QhA0b1nsQ70ggCEbggAAAAAASr8kHJkwgys5OA since I can't upload all the photos here. Disregard rooms A and B, as my room isn't in those photos.

[The black desk in the photos is now a sturdier sit/stand adjustable one (hand crank), a now I have a nightstand cabinet, and all the bedding is brand new]

About YOU:
Nice, friendly, respectful, communicative, non-smoking/drugs, clean in shared spaces, and reasonably volume-d (complex's quiet hours are from 10pm-8am, but we try not to disturb neighbors, etc.), NOT ALLERGIC TO CATS, not a big party host (occasional small tasteful evening affairs are fine). Able to take care of the space and not damage things, but take responsibility if something does happen.
And for everyone's health, if you get sick, we would like you to be okay with wearing a mask in the common areas.

Apartment:

  • In-unit washer & dryer
  • Dishwasher / Fridge
  • Private balcony
  • 2nd floor apartment
  • Full kitchen, complete living room, separate dining area
  • Lots of kitchen/cooking gear I'm willing to share if you can take care of it
  • Air conditioning (wall unit in living room) / baseboard heat but I would recommend a space heater [which I'll leave out for you] (though we rarely need either)
  • Yamaha P115B digital piano with weighted keys (and a headphone jack if you're shy like me, don't worry!)

Community:

  • Great service and maintenance, responsive owners
  • Amazon locker for all your packages to keep them safe (though I've never seen a package stolen even when the lockers are full)
  • Fitness center
  • Really pretty lush grounds
  • Well-reviewed by tenants
  • Easy & free parking
  • Close proximity to: downtown Mountain View (food, events, an absurd amount of boba, & Caltrain), Google campus, San Antonio shopping center (groceries [Safeway/Trader Joes/Walmart/Target], theater), several parks (and a skate park)
  • Safe area
  • Free Mountain View shuttle
  • Nice pool & fountain
  • Patio & barbecue area
  • Community events and contests
  • Dog park + lots of dog friends in the complex (and occasional neighborhood cats that are pretty dope)
  • Community pool/bbq parties + pet days
  • About a 15 minute drive to Stanford

More photos of the apartment complex and amenities are available at their website (just click "View Gallery" or the big pool photo itself): https://www.avaloncommunities.com/california/mountain-view-apartments/avalon-mountain-view
