HI! I am looking for a roommate starting Oct. 1 to join for a one year lease (possibly 11mo). I have been living in the apartment for one year and it is honestly great. My current roommate is moving for a new job in the UK at the end of September. The apartment is located at Menlo Park Apartments (Coleman Pl) and is about a 25 min walk to downtown Palo Alto / 20 min bike to Stanford campus. There are also several buses to campus, CalTrain, Palo Alto, Redwood City, and Menlo Park. Pictures are attached - packing has started so excuse the small mess!
The apartment is 900+ sq. ft., 2-bedroom, one shared bathroom, great kitchen / dining nook, and huge living room with loads of light. The apartment and room is currently furnished but can be unfurnished if that suits you better (I own all the furniture so I can attest to the good quality). There is currently a fairly new bed frame (no mattress), a choice of one of two desks, dresser (x2), and a double wide closet with sliding mirror doors. All furniture is in excellent condition. The rest of the apartment is fully furnished as well but I am absolutely willing to make room for yours if you have any. There is also a community pool, parking spot, and storage closet (can fit a bike if hanging).
Currently the whole apartment is $2995 and is split $1400/1600 + utilities (water, sewage, trash is about $80-$100ea per month; gas/electric ranges from ~$30ea in the summer $80 in the winter - so ~$110-180 depending on the season). However, I expect the room should be around $1450 - I am just waiting for confirmation from the landlord about the new rent as this will be the start of a new lease with a 12mo commitment. The apartment IS rent controlled.
About me: I am an archaeology postdoc at the Stanford Archaeology Center. I am 41m and a vegetarian who absolutely loves to cook, including for others. I spend most time at cafés, at work, or traveling for work (conferences, fieldwork overseas). I like healthy living, going on hikes, enjoy art and museums, and walking as much as I can. At home I read a lot, watch movies on the shared projector, and play guitar occasionally. I'm currently writing a book as part of my postdoc and will be here at least until Sept 2027. I am super clean around the house, drug free/drink only occasionally, respectful of shared spaces, and pretty handy when things go awry (although we do have a maintenance man).
I would prefer to live with someone in the Stanford community such as another postdoc, grad student, med. student/resident, or visiting faculty member/researcher - but this is absolutely flexible (except for undergrads, sorry). The landlord will require proof of a stable income and a credit check ($50 fee). I do prefer to live with another vegetarian but this is not a deal breaker. I am LGBTQ+ friendly and have no gender/sexuality preferences for my future roommate. Please, no smokers or drugs though.
