I’m a 38-year-old male UIUC student with full-time remote employment seeking housing from September 1 through May 31 in the CU area within 20-30 minutes from campus by foot or bus (my first class is near the LER building).
I strongly prefer a completely private studio, one-bedroom, efficiency, guesthouse, or similar unit. However, I would consider an unusually private shared arrangement if it includes:
A private, locking bedroom or bedroom suite
A bathroom reserved exclusively for my use
A quiet, low-traffic household (I will be working in my room during daytime hours before 5 p.m. and generally spending most time in my room working on homework after that. I have class Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-1.)
Roommates comfortable living with a nontraditional adult male student
Explicit permission for my dog, a small Boston Terrier weighing about 15-20 lbs.
Substantial day-to-day privacy and no expectation of a highly social roommate arrangement
Sharing of a kitchen, laundry area, or entrance may be acceptable if the overall arrangement is genuinely private. I am not interested in ordinary student-bedroom leases, shared bathrooms, crowded apartments, or party-oriented households. I have a car and would require dependable parking.
My maximum total budget is approximately $7,500, including rent, required fees, pet charges, utilities, and internet. That represents a significant premium over my current cost to commute from a town two counties away. For the right arrangement, I can prepay the agreed rent for the entire nine-month term after viewing the property, verifying ownership or authorized sublease status, and signing a written agreement. I am a quiet, clean, dependable working adult with a steady income and no need for guests or other disruptions to shared spaces.
Furnished is preferred but not required. I will be out of town a lot and would prefer to simply come to Champaign with my clothes, dog, and computer and leave the place in May like I found it. Practical walking or MTD access to UIUC is important.
