Laurel Schwulst is an artist, writer, and technologist. She teaches design at Washington University in St. Louis and also directs her own educational umbrella project, Ultralight School. Previously Laurel taught at Yale and Princeton, co-authored a book of fragrance reviews, released an ambient travel app, and held design roles at Linked by Air, Kickstarter, and Are.na.
In this talk, Laurel will share her practice through reflecting on her project-as-world, Ultralight School, specifically: how it came to be, its most recent iteration, and its possible futures. She'll explore questions like: What is a world? How can artists / designers create them, and why?
