Black Elk house is a Cooperative house that is part of the ICC, the Inter Cooperative Council of Ann Arbor. It is a housing organization mainly for students. Throughout the years Black Elk has fulfilled a strong commitment to maintaining a cooperative and social atmosphere. They have a long-running tradition for healthy vegetarian and vegan cuisine; no meat is allowed on the property (but respectful meat eaters are allowed). They pride themselves on being environmentally conscious and responsible. Their members vary in age, interests, sexual orientation, and gender identity- they create an environment that is friendly to all! They welcome and encourage people with broad thoughts, creative ideas, and diverse backgrounds.
$959 per month includes housing, utilities, parking, groceries, dinner cooked five times per week, a beautiful woodsy back yard with a fire pit, a small jungle gym, a secured garden shed, a bike rack, 9 parking spots, and composting facilities. The basement has tons of storage, TV with a chrome cast, video games, a ball pit, and a laundry room. The gorgeous second-floor study has a small library, access to the second-floor porch, and a wireless printer. Murals and artwork by generations of former Elkers adorn many of the walls. Also, the house has 4 bathrooms, all of which are gender-neutral.
