ISO: help fixing wireless driver and updating Ubuntu operating system

Are you handy with Linux and familiar with Ubuntu? Interested in making $50?

I have a Dell netbook running Ubuntu 8.04 (the April 2008 Hardy Heron release). Known problems:

1. The wireless driver seems to be only partially functional (can only connect to networks manually, not automatically; used to be fine but got screwed up while trying to connect to weird security features on a friend's in-home network). Internet connection via ethernet cable seems to function without problems.

2. The Update Manager runs into problems filing the "package information" and can't download and install updates properly.

I'm looking for someone who can:

1. identify and address an error in the file structures related to system updates
2. locate and fix the built-in firefox browser which will not launch after my last attempt to install updates.
3. fix the wireless driver and connect the computer to the Stanford campus wireless network (yes, I have a SUNetID)
4. ideally has software on a USB drive and could install newer version of Ubuntu to update the operating system
