Have you been looking for cooperative living in the South Bay? A place where folks care for each other and the world we live in? Would you like to relax at the end of the day with the lights down low, Moon and Stars bright, to the song of Crickets and Owls? Thoughtful conversations around the kitchen table? Movie nights? Spontaneous house dinners? We have such a paradise, on a beautiful oak meadow overlooking the Santa Clara Valley, surrounded by mountain hiking trails and vineyards, while still being close to town.
We have a room available on September 1st in our little semi-cooperative community, very close to Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Saratoga, Los Gatos, and the 85/De Anza crossing. The room is $1260/mo for 190 sq. ft. We are on a few acres which we are stewarding according to Permaculture principles. We are a group of students, teachers, permaculturists, homesteaders, environmental educators, makers, readers, writers, reskillers, trackers, birders, cooks, chefs, bakers, food preservers, tea-drinkers, hikers, campers, artists, surfers, bicyclers, improv artists, musicians, therapists, physicists, DIY-ers, and activists (all that in just five people!)
On a given day, you may encounter bread-baking, sodas or kombucha brewing, fermenting veggies, spontaneous house meals, shared produce, clothes drying on the line, kitchen table conversations, veggie and herb gardens, birds, critters, board games, acoustic guitar, singing, coworking, movie nights, greenbelt walks, and...?
Sometimes it's easier to read things as a list, so here we go. We value:
Diversity in skills, experience, culture, ethnicity, gender, religion, spirituality, age, talents, etc.
Environmental commitment
Safety-mindedness
Directness, thoughtfulness and sensitivity when communicating
Vegetarian cooking in-house
Cooperative chore sharing, keep common spaces clean
Fragrance-free household (cleaning products, fabric softener, candles, incense, perfumes, etc)
Gentle, warm lighting after dark
Bonus points for (but not essential):
Permaculture/eco-design skills/experience/interest
Homesteading/primitive skills, nature awareness work
Personal practice (meditation, yoga, journaling, sit-spotting, etc...)
Experienced with and/or enjoy living with others (co-ops, shared houses, intentional communities, ecovillages, etc)
Available for periodic workdays for bigger projects in the house and on the land
The room is, again: 190 sq. ft at $1260/mo. We share utilities and internet costs. The house is quiet and peaceful, with 5 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, kitchen access, and some onsite storage available on mixed oak woodland and grassland, with magnificent views and wildlife wandering the land. Country feel, while very close (~5-7 minutes!) to Highways 85 and 280. We are not able to have pets, sorry about that!
In your reply, please give a brief description of yourself, your experience, your interests, why you're interested in this kind of house, and any questions you have for us. Please leave your phone number in your message, and I'll contact you if it seems like we’d be a good fit. Along with references and a credit check, an in-person interview is part of the process, where housemates and applicant meet and talk, please plan on this! More photos available on request.
Please forward to folks you think might be interested. Thanks for reading the whole ad, and happy house hunting!
William
