hi all my bike was stolen from Stanford's campus this weekend. It looks like a total junker and was securely locked, so I'm surprised (perhaps naively so). My dad bought it second hand over forty years ago, and passed it on to me when I started grad school three years ago. He just had a stroke, and it has tremendous sentimental value to me.
Here are some distinguishing characteristics:
-I think it is from 1974 based on what my dad told me
-Has been repainted several times (not by me). It is currently a deep red, with abrasions and flecks of yellow on top of steel.
-I was told by a random man on Caltrain that the bike had "nice lugs" once
-Campy breaks & suicide shifters (10-speed I think? I only really ever used two)
-mismatched breakpads
-new tire on back wheel
-seat that looks like mostly foam instead of (fake?) leather because I needed to replace it but hadn't made time
-handlebars are wrapped in black tape
-front light
-It rides well as is, but needs a deep clean and lube
If you see a bike like this, please reach out. From what I can tell this bike might be worth something, but it's worth infinitely more to me because of the sentimental value.
It looks similar to this photo. But I do not have a photo of it. I never registered it because I couldn't find the serial number underneath the paint.
