I am moving out after 3.5 years living in this incredible house and looking for someone to take my room.
The Situation
I have lived in this house since graduating in 2014 and feel blessed to have found it! I live with 3 other incredible Stanford affiliated people. One is working at the Med School, one works at SLAC and the other is a Grad Student (all in early/mid 20s). They have all left me a much better person for my time with them (better cook, taking care of my mind and body, more handy,...). We enjoy each other's company but also love to be able to retreat to our bedrooms for personal time. We also all cook and have a super well stocked kitchen with sharable cookware, spices, oils, honey, and other things! The key to the house working so well is communication, so if you are looking for a place where you can live in the room and not engage at all/minimally, this will not be the right house for you.
The House
The house is older and has a lot of charm and character. It was built in the 1950s by a Stanford electrical engineering professor and is still owned by the original family (we have a great relationship with the landlord and have never had a rent increase). The massive backyard has apricot, pear and fig trees as well as a stage (we don't know why, but we have definitely used it!), 2 hammocks, string lighting all around and a hottub (currently drained for the winter). We have a lot of shared common space which means we can have people over and people can still enjoy a movie in the second living room, or be working in the office, or enjoying the backyard. The garage is great for storage, has laundry and drier, has a second freezer, pantry space for food, and is where we keep our bikes. The house is a quick bike to campus (most of the house bikes) and is located near the intersection of Alameda De Las Pulgas and Valparaiso in West Menlo Park.
The Room
Your room will be a massive 18'x16' room which has direct access to the backyard (which can act as a private entrance with separate key). It has a grand piano in it (must stay in the room) and no closets, but I was able to get some from Amazon for around $20-40 that can be easily constructed! It has been a wonderful room with enough space to fit all of my music stuff as well as all of my drag clothing, wigs, heels, makeup,.... so if you happen to be an artist, this is an unreal opportunity to have space to product your art where you live! The ONLY significant downside to the room is that it is the coldest room in the house, so in the winter, we have a space heater that I recommend using. The tiny space heater more than does the trick.
Sounds Good?
If you made it here and you think this would be a good fit, please send me a reply with your information! Tell me about yourself, what you do, what your habits are, what your home lifestyle is like, and some of the logistics around when you would like to move in. If you seem like a good fit, I will work with you to find a time for you to visit and meet the house mates and the house. I may not be able to get to every response, so apologies in advance if I don't get back to you.
