Us:
One is 39, works in comms at Stanford, extroverted, new-ish to the Bay Area, straight and in a relationship, at the gym most nights after work, hiking/biking on nice weekends, concerts 2-3 times per month, facetious sense of humor, doesn’t drink much, talks about sex, religion, politics & other uncouth subjects.
The other is 31, works as a programmer at a tech firm, introverted, straight and dating, quirky and sometimes wry sense of humor, wicked smart, doesn't drink much, orders delivery food often, also talks about uncouth subjects. We're both from Massachusetts, but we're not "Massholes."
You:
Have a full-time job or grad school funding, don’t smoke cigarettes, don’t drink hard at home or do any synthetic drugs (natural stuff is OK), have your own circle of friends but would like to eat meals together on occasion. We don’t care about your ethnicity/gender/sexual orientation/etc. We’re mostly looking for someone who is nice, can hold an amicable & intelligent conversation, and is respectful of noise while others are sleeping. Sorry, but no couples.
House:
One-story, single family home in East Palo Alto
Each of us has their own room; no one sleeping in common areas
20-minute bike ride to Stanford; 15-minute drive (25-30 during rush-hour)
No cigarette smoking
No pets
Garage for storage
Garden space in front and back yards (gotta put work into it if you wanna get something out of it)
Common spaces are fully furnished & kitchen is stocked w/cookware
Room has two closets and can come furnished with bed, if you wish
We keep the place fairly clean but aren’t neurotic about it. (Photos reflect typical state of cleanliness.) We have typically gotten a pro cleaner every month or two, but we can discuss.
Utilities run about $50-60 per person per month in summer & $90-100 in winter
Could discuss you having room with private 1/2 bath for $966
Upsides:
Rent control
Patio for dinner parties out back
Driveway parking
Dishwasher
Electric massage chair
Close to Target & supermarket
Downsides:
Heating is our only big gripe (need space heaters in winter)
Not a lot of kitchen cabinet space
