My dear roommate and I are looking for someone to take my place in the next month or two (as early as Feb. 1st, as late as April 1st) when I am moving out. The rent is $2,275, and we split it evenly (meaning you'd pay $1,137.50), plus utilities.
A little about my (and your future) roommate:
Emma is a wonderful roommate--clean but not obsessive, a great friend, considerate, warm. She cooks banana bread with some frequency and is a great tender of houseplants. She's 31 and a third year clinical psychology graduate student. As a testament to her awesomeness, Emma and I did not know each other when she moved in a year ago, and now we are good friends. I am sad to move out, but I will be back to visit! :)
Of importance, Emma has a dog, Thea, who is the love of my life and is prominently featured in the pictures due to her majesty and gloriousness. She is an exceptionally well behaved dog--she never chews on things that aren't hers, or pees in the house, or begs, or gets cranky if you try to dress her in beautiful outfits, and she will stay until you release her (the max here is unknown because she has always out-stayed us). Her favorite foods are carrots and kale stems, and she likes the word helicopter for no conceivable reason. Her one Achilles heel is that she has some stranger anxiety, which causes her to bark at new people for a couple of minutes until she calms down and realizes that they're not actually about to kidnap her people. This is not a problem except for the fact that it requires a little bit of patience when introducing her to new people. I occasionally feed Thea or take her out to pee, but Emma does 99% of Thea care. I contribute by doing lots of Thea snuggling.
A little about the apartment:
It's a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom 2nd floor apartment above a garage, which is only occupied by your car and another tenant's (for the entire time I've lived here, I've been the only car in the garage). There is ample parking for guests. The apartment shares one wall with our neighbors who are extremely nice, and there is no one above or below us. The kitchen is pretty small, but has a new dishwasher and a garbage disposal. We are located in Menlo Park, about half a mile from the Willow Exit off the 101. Emma bikes to Stanford, and we're about a mile and a half from all of the restaurants and things on University.
Requests for future roommate:
I’m ideally looking to live with another student in their mid-20s to mid-30s. It would be great if you're interested in sharing communal space and chatting about your day in the evening. I work mostly from home and will be writing my dissertation this spring-fall (gulp!). My desk is in the common space and so this area is usually pretty quiet, especially when there is work to be done. I’m environmentally conscious but not fanatical about it and you can choose to participate or not (e.g. composting and recycling) but would be nice if you were open to it. Most importantly though, it is imperative that you like dogs and will love and respect Thea!
