Look, here's the deal: housing in the Bay is so expensive that it's literally cheaper to live in a sun-drenched mansion at the top of a forested valley than to live in a normal house. Don't think about it too hard!
The house is a gorgeous, sunny 10-bedroom overlooking a forested valley, with beautiful views of mountains to the west and distant San Jose to the east. The room for rent has windows on two sides and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves on two walls. The shower has fantastic water pressure. There's a large pool and a hot tub. The main entrance has lion statues and a straight-up moat. What's not to love?
We're just west of 280, so it's about 15 minutes driving and 45 minutes on bike to get to Stanford.
The housemates are about half men, half women. We're in our 20s and 30s. The character of the house tends toward kind, quirky, and a little nerdy. We've been living together for up to two years now and there are some good friends in the house. We're decently social; there's almost always somebody at the kitchen table to talk to, and we watch shows and play board games together.
We're mostly professionals, but usually have one or two Stanford grad students / postdocs / research faculty living with us. Our last Stanford student is moving out now so we need someone else to come represent :)
