My roommates and I are graduating this year, and will have to leave our beautiful off-campus accomodation. If you are considering moving off-campus, got screwed by the draw, want to save money by NOT having to purchase a meal-plan, or are graduating and working in the Bay Area, then this might just be the place for you.
First of all, the place in question is a 3 bedroom HOUSE - not an apartment, so there's a lot of space to go around. Two storeys, huge living room, fully-equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, great backyard, and ample parking space. It's a great deal, and I'm not kidding. We've lived here for two years now, and some of the best memories we will keep from our college experience will be centered around this place. Remember, a HOUSE (great for sharing), not an small, cramped apartment.
The house itself is conveniently situated between the El Camino Safeway and the Stanford Shopping Center. It is extremely close to campus (10 minute bike ride) and also the Menlo Park BART/Caltrain Station (10 minute bike ride, too). If you wanna go shopping, the mall is one minute away. Of course, if you have a car, then it's no problem at all.
Now for the actual details:
A fully equipped kitchen (microwave, fridge, electric stoves, dishwasher, oven, toaster, rice cooker, blender, coffee machine, every kind of utensil, pot or pan you can think of... basically, not Stanford dorm kitchenette shit)
A huge TV with DVD player and surround sound system (Direct TV dish already installed)
A working fireplace
Central heating system
A stepmaster for your workout needs
2 bathrooms (one with shower and one with bathtub)
Washing machine and dryer
Wireless (or ethernet cable) internet access (router already installed)
BBQ grill
Futon in living room, so guests can sleep over
An entire dedicated storage room
Garage for parking (with additional fridge for your six-packs, and bike hooks)
Lots of closet space in each room
Vacuum cleaner and other cleaning supplies
And of course, a nice backyard with deck chairs and a table, so you can do your work or chill in the Californian sun.
This place is perfect for those who want to live it up in style (at affordable student prices), and avoid shitty campus food. The rent per month is about $3,000 (subject to state laws on rent), split however many ways you want. In fact, with this cheap rent, my personal motivation for moving off-campus was to save money by not buying a ~$1300 meal plan every quarter (which you will have to do if you live in a row house). You could even have up to 4 people living in the house, as there is so much space (we've used the living room as a separate room before, as it is so huge - and two of the real bedrooms are big enough for a king size bed, along with a desk and dresser). This price is ridiculously cheap for rentals in this area (especially for such a great location), and with all the features of this place, it's a steal. The rent includes landscaping for the garden, and the services of our landlord (an amazing guy), a full-time lawyer who is friendly, dedicated, and on-call to fix anything in the house that needs repair.
If you are interested at coming to take a look, or know somebody who is, then give me a call at 650-450-3664, or reply to this email to set up a time. Please forward this to as many lists as you can. HURRY, because the demand for this place is unbelievable. The reason I am emailing this out to Stanford kids first is because this house has a tradition of staying within the Stanford community, and has been occupied by Stanford kids for the past 6 years - we would like to keep it that way. My roommates and I are also selling almost all of our furniture at insane knock-down prices, so whoever takes the furniture too will get priority.
Thanks for your time, be prepared for your friends who get assigned to Wilbur next year to look at you with envious eyes. Great off-campus house, close to campus, amazing spot for throwing parties, BBQs in the backyard, and much more privacy than a dorm.
Cheers,
Bryan Tan
