The location and price of this apartment can't be beat; however, never would I ever sign a lease there again. I also wouldn't let anyone I know live there.
I am the current tenant of the 2Bed-1Bath apartment on 749 Stanford Avenue, and I have had numerous issues with the landlords that have now resulted in threats to take him to court for failing to provide a "habitable environment." My roommate and I have lived through more plumbing issues than you would ever imagine (including many, many hours without a working toilet) as well as a severe gas leak. We reported smelling gas to our landlord in July 2010 and he said there was no leak. Months later we called Palo Alto Utilities out to check the gas and they confirmed that it was a severe leak and were required by law to turn it off as it was hazardous to our health and safety. In the following weeks we struggled to ensure that the landlords properly fixed the leak as mandated by Palo Alto Utilities before our gas could be turned on again, and it was not pretty. Ultimately, the landlords don't want to spend money on anything in the apartment and one of them does almost all of the repairs himself. This means that they are done poorly and must be repeated days, weeks and months later.
